Cowtown was awesome! And inspiring! I will definitely take some time to blog about all of the different classes that we went to. I have found that this is really great for remembering what exactly I learned and when I want to look at something again, it makes it really easy.
Some things that I took away:
I am really starting to understand how to just dance. Sometimes I think so hard about doing every step just perfectly that I forget that I can just dance and have a good time and the moves will come. I had some great success with just letting go. James and I have finally started just playing around and some really great dancing starts happening.
Some highlights of the classes:
Aerials class- This class was awesome! James and I really love aerials and are getting pretty good at working them through. We are building up quite a repertoire of different aerial tricks that we can and like to do. I was kind of disappointed that we didn’t get to do them at the contest, but that story is another post.
I really liked the bal-swing classes. Not because I particularly like bal-swing, but because they really challenged me. It’s hard pressed to go to classes that are not advanced classes and be challenged by the foot work, but this one did in lots of ways. The advanced bal-swing class had completely different footwork which was also a challenge. I am looking forward to working this in to our fast dancing.
Where do we go from here?
Well we know that we need to work on fast dancing. The competition was kind of frustrating because we have been working so hard on phrasing our lindy hop, and we didn’t get to use any of it. That was a major bummer.
We also need to continue preparing for anything. It seems like every time we prepare for something they change how the contest goes.
I know there are some follow skills that I need to work on, but I am struggling figuring out how to go about that. So that is a constant work in progress.
