Been a lot of dancing and a lot of dreaming over here.
In my absence we have accomplished:
2 new aerials- videos to come!
a few more transitional charleston moves
a few great nights of dancing
This last Friday at Jitterbugs it seemed like everyone was there. Not in the sense that it was super busy, but that there were a lot of faces that we don’t always see. Sarah Porter made it out, and while we didn’t get to chat all that much (we were too busy dancing) it was great to spend some time with her.
James and I have been working up stuff for competitions lately. It’s not important to be the best. But, we both get a lot of satisfaction out of competing better than we did the last time. So, the goal is to be better than we were before. This means that we need to keep working on phrasing our showcases, making our dancing smoother, and being more in control.
A goal for this week is to work on some sequences to utilize while we are learning how to phrase. There is also a great contest on Lindy Hop moves.com where you can win passes to a dance fest in Poland in November. Not that we have even a minute chance of winning, but it gives us something to work on.
We attended a Tranky Doo workshop on Saturday. It was nice to just dance, and work on stylizing the moves of this routine. I know the steps, but when you practice for an hour and a half on steps you already know, then you can go ahead and add your style or really develop your style. Great! I think I may even teach all or part of this dance to my 5th and 6th graders this year. They felt so accomplished when they learned the shim sham, and absolutely loved it, so why not give them a bigger challenge.
We have been watching some swing videos lately too. I am sure we will continue to do that as well. One thing that’s been happening lately is the weaving of other dancing into our lindy hop. James is well versed in ballroom dances, and it’s always fun when we can throw in some foxtrot or latin dancing just to change things up a bit. I would like to explore this even more with my jazz and tap dancing.
The goal for the week is to just keep dancing. 🙂
