Dancing has been great lately. We have been doing a good job of dancing something every day. Yesterday we worked on the big apple so now we are remembering the entire dance. I plan on going through it a few times tonight to music.
Friday night was the dance at Omaha Jitterbugs as always. The dancing was pretty good. I got quite a few dances in both with James and with other people. I am trying to focus my Friday nights on just having a good time dancing, and really just following. Sometimes I think way too hard about dancing and then get really frustrated when things are not working. Some follow skills that I need to continue working on are keeping the tension out of my right arm, and not anticipating the moves.
Any good tips for the tension thing? It seems as though the faster the music goes the more tense I get. I am sure that’s a common problem.
Saturday we went to my cousins wedding reception. The music was great. They had a live band that played all sorts of music. I got to practice some latin and ballroom dancing too. I was mortified because my dad asked the band to play a swing song. He must have said something about how his daughter swing dances. Well, then the band made this big deal about how there was a request for a swing song, and that the swing couple should come to the center of the floor. WHO DOES THAT? Hearing a swing song would be great, but by no means did I want to go to the middle of the floor during my cousins wedding reception. I was mortified. It would have been fine if they would have just played the short song (which was a foxtrot by the way) and then moved on, but no, we were called to the middle of the floor and they didn’t start the song until we got there. For the first part of the song, no one was dancing but us. AGAIN, MORTIFYING! eventually other people started dancing and then I felt way better. I immediately went and apologized to the bride, and she was so nice, but still, not cool. The reception was lovely, but I was not jivin with the whole spotlight dance.
Like I said, yesterday we did some work on the big apple. It was really good and it felt like we were getting it down. Tonight I am planning on working on that a bit more

Work on tension in the right arm
Go over both routines every night
work on some swing warm-ups
