Been dancing a moderate amount lately. Definitely not as much as I would like to, but what can you do. It’s been busy in my life lately. We are going to be moving to a new apartment in less than a month (which will have more room for dancing!).
This is what I have been working on lately. We have been using Lindyhopmoves.com and freeswingdancelessons.com to find new and interesting moves that we haven’t done before that are easy to work into our regular stuff. We are doing a couple new moves a week. I am hoping to start making videos of these moves to show you some different and new things that we have found and like.
Two weeks ago we competed in a anything goes competition at Omaha Jitterbugs. James and I ended up getting 3rd place. We felt really great about how we danced, even though we definitely made some mistakes. The next step in our dancing is to smooth things out and really feel the pulse and dig in to the beat. This is different from “getting down”. I believe that it is a style choice. Digging in to the pulse is not a style choice.
I would also like to get away from the routine. Sometimes I sink into the comfort that I know the order of when James is going to do certain tricks (usually the more complicated things) I would like to get away from that comfort and really work on the improvisational aspect of swing dancing. I can’t wait to have more room in the apartment in which to do this.
I also would like to continue working on the hitch as a follower footwork variation. I am not sure why this is so hard for me to figure out. I can get more complicated things with no problem and this silly little hitch just doesn’t make sense!
I am going to post some videos this afternoon. more to come!
