It’s been a busy week in the life of Lindsay.
The first grade music program was quite the time sucker of the week. That being said, we still danced nearly every day.
Sunday was a bit of a bust. Curling just wipes out all of my energy, so I didn’t dance, but I made up for it on Monday. Over lunch I practiced some routines and decided to learn squat charleston. If someone has a idea of the best way to catch your breath while dancing squat charleston, please let me know. 🙂 I got the footwork down, but I hold my breath, so by the end I am dying.
Tuesday- Thursday was a lot of practicing lindy vignettes. We are finding what works and what doesn’t. And I think it has both of us thinking about how to put together phrases even though they may not be the ones we “wrote down”.
Friday- not the best night of dancing. I have found that I don’t love dancing in tights. That’s different than leggings. Tights might be ok, but even though I am short, the short tights were too short to be comfortable while dancing. I was getting frustrated with it feeling uncomfortable. James also had a way of knocking me around (or snapping me with the heel of his shoe). I know that frustrated him. When you are working super hard, mistakes happen. It’s mega frustrating because you are wanting to become better. I think that you do become better through the mistakes, but you don’t feel that way when it’s happening. We left early because we just weren’t feeling the music. Some nights you feel inspired by music and some nights you don’t. I think it’s interesting how the same song can have a different effect on any given day.
We have six days until Heartland Swing Festival. (where we are doing a couple of competitions) The next few days will be spent practicing a lot. Hopefully we will get the vignettes down and feel comfortable just putting them together. We have to force ourselves to dance to fast music whether we like it or not because if we happen to get through the prelims (which is our only goal) then I am sure the music will be smokin’ fast for at least part of the finals.
I am looking forward to gaining a lot of knowledge in the classes. I have felt awesome about dancing as I travel to various different places to dance. It is great fun to be able to communicate on the dance floor no matter where you are at.
On that note… Coming in the Summer of 2012. Lindsay and James European extravaganza. Now that we have our flights officially booked, we can start looking at what we will be doing. We are planning on finding lots of places to lindy hop in the various countries we will be visiting. How exciting.
On the agenda for the weekend:
2. get the routine videos up
4. Have fun dancing
