Ballroom class was pretty fun last night. We continued to work on some hesitation steps, and were really working on how the viennese waltz feels to move down and around the dance floor. I can understand how this would be a hard concept to grasp. I am very glad sometimes that I am a follow. I just do what the lead tells me to 🙂 James had taught me the basic viennese waltz step in the kitchen while we were making dinner, and I even got to try it out with him while we were demonstrating how the steps would look in time with the music.
The next class was West Coast swing. in this class we worked a lot on the connection and concentrated on the idea that the follow has to stay put until the lead leads her somewhere else. This should be a simple concept, but it’s easy to forget. We also talked a lot about what you can do when the lead is to stay put. I was experimenting with some different things. James was also experimenting. Remind me to never let James experiment 😉 (or just make sure there are certain moves he is NEVER allowed to do, namely…. shimmying)
James and I practiced the Tranky Doo, and we are still having trouble remembering the order of certain moves. Tonight we need to solidify that a little better. We have all of the steps down, we just get fuzzy when it comes to the order.
That being said, tonight is UNO swing club. We will be practicing our moves there, and hopefully there will be more people there this week. We WILL go over the Tranky Doo multiple times. I want to be able to dance it without having to think about the steps. I am going to try and do it three times to music over my lunch hour. That will help. And, as always, I want to review some of the stuff we have been learning lately.
