Last night was a great night of dance practice. James and I got a lot accomplished.
We went over the Tranky Doo multiple times. It took a few tries to get the order down. The first half of the dance is in my memory. Once we get to the mess around we both fall apart a little. We forget what exactly comes, but we do know all of the steps. We practiced it a few different times with different tempo songs, and that was fun. I would like to practice it some more tonight if I get the chance.
We also went over all of the fast lindy stuff that we learned. We reviewed St. Louis Shag. I have found that I need to acquire some more up tempo music. We were trying to do it to music that was too slow, and that was making it difficult, but we are not ready to go smoking fast. So that’s on the agenda for this week, get new music.
We practiced the Charleston swing outs which might be my new favorite thing. When I first started Lindy hop, Charleston moves were not my favorite. I struggled a lot with keeping balance. Now, Charleston moves are my favorite. I don’t care if it’s hand to hand, tandem, 20’s, swing outs, I love it all. Crazy how that works. We then worked a little bit on some of the other moves we have learned recently and we spent some time figuring out how to make them work in other situations. I am excited to unveil some of these moves on the floor!
Tonight is Ballroom night. We have beginning Viennese Waltz (I really hope we will learn the basic tonight) and then we have intermediate West Coast Swing. Both of these dances I really like, so I am looking forward to class. I would also like to go over the Tranky Doo, and the Big Apple (I hope I haven’t lost that).
