Two days in a row…. woot woot!
Last night was another night of ballroom classes. It has been so cold, that when we got to Simply Ballroom, we went to the other dance room and danced all of the big apple to warm ourselves up. I am feeling really good about the Big Apple now. I have the entire dance done, and James and I can go through it all with little mistake. Now, we need to try it to music. Maybe we can sneakily set up the Flip camera tonight at the dance and film ourselves doing it to music.
THe first class of last night was intermediate Samba. I don’t know samba very well, and the Latin dances are not my favorite. I have been having hip troubles lately, and I bet that has something to do with my dislike for these hippy dances. I can’t remember the name of the move that we learned. It was basically step-side-replace. traveling backwards or forwards. The first step has to cross the body of the other person depending on if you are going back (cross for leader) or forward (cross for follower). From the followers perspective anyways. We then put that in combination with some samba walks and samba basics.
The second class was beginning Mambo. I know that I do not know all of the basic elements of these ballroom dances, but sometimes the beginning classes move really slow for my taste. We went over basic mambo steps and ended class with the rueta (if that’s how you spell it) It starts with a basic fifth position, then a left right step through and back on the left, then an under arm turn back to the beginning. Now, remember, I am describing these moves from a followers perspective, so they may not make an incredible deal of sense when you are reading them. Hopefully I will get a video up so there is actual confirmation of these steps!
Tonight is Friday. That means it’s Jitterbugs night. Last week was a great dance, and I am hoping for some of the same this week. I know that James and I both want to go through the big apple. I would also like to play a little bit with footwork variations. Also, that thing called phrasing, it will not get the best of us!
Next weekend is Christian and Jenny weekend. I am looking forward to that. There will be some great dancing, and I will learn the tranky do (which is really what I am looking forward to most from that weekend). I am very thankful that my Saturday class is this weekend and not next weekend (stupid graduate school!). I know they are also teaching shag, but I really have no desire to learn shag. ( something about being a buxom woman makes that less desirable). Also, I need to make sure to dance this weekend. I have been slacking a lot on the weekends, so it’s time to make up for that!
