This weekend has been busy and relaxed all at the same time. Like I said in my previous post, we attended the swing dance at the Omaha Jitterbugs Friday night. It was a great time. The UNO big band was performing, and I know a few people in that group, so it’s always great to support them. I wore my cute yellow dress with some black leggings, so I felt a little like a bumble bee. 🙂
We practiced quite a bit in the very beginning of the dance. We probably danced four dances in a row, and then I felt very tired. Later in the night I went downstairs to get a coke, and it took 10 minutes for the bartender to hand me the can! Grrr…. that’s dancing lost.
Yesterday was the first snow in Omaha that actually amounted to anything. James really wanted to send out a lindy hop holiday challenge, so we braved the cold and snow and taped a video of us dancing in the midst of the Midtown Crossing lights display. It took us two tries to get the video taped. The first attempt had a few problems. One being that you couldn’t hear the music at all, and another being the battery life of the camera. Also, who knew that dancing on the slick freshly shoveled side walks would be a challenge. We made some mistakes, but the final video is worth showing. Remember, it was slippery and cold, and that may or may not have impacted our dancing abilities a bit!
I still want to video tape the waltz step that we learned Thursday night. I am hoping that we can do that tonight after curling. I had a very important discovery Friday about ballroom. I enjoy it a lot more when I actually get to put the moves into practice. This seems like a very easy concept and obvious, but I didn’t even think about how much more fun it is just to dance, rather than only learning the patterns. I am hoping that in the next few weeks I can talk James into just dancing some of these ballroom steps with me. We also need to review what we know of the big apple and try to truck on into the last half of the routine. I would like to have the whole routine learned by New Years Eve. But, that means I am going to have to bust a move!!!
