So, yesterday was a dance high. We have spent a few weeks working on the big apple, and it was finally starting to click. We practiced the routine for over an hour last night. Basically drilling all of the steps that we already knew. It was definitely a cardio workout.
The end of the practice session ended with a triumphant rendition of half of the Big Apple at full speed. Clearly, the video I uploaded last night was proof that it actually happened (because without that, I might not believe it). It made both James and I feel very confident about our dancing, and about the routine.
I was looking forward to dancing today. I thought about practicing some new steps over my lunch hour, but that didn’t happen (I wish it would have). The clap sequence and break step was the next thing on the agenda. That part of the dance was pretty easy to grasp on to. The only challenge is that the break step is similar to one in the beginning, only with out a syncopated ball change, so that’s confusing! After a bit of practice, it was pretty easy (even though James kept telling me my side of the bridge was lopsided 😛 )
The next step however, proves a bit challenging. The only thing keeping me on the correct planet is that this sequence is very tap-dance like. There are a lot of kicks, steps, ball changes, and triple steps… or just one of each 🙂 There is also a kick charleston at the end that we didn’t even get to! I feel pretty good about where we left off, but I better practice it a lot so it gets engrained in my brain!
No work on phrasing tonight. Too tired. Tomorrows goal: review kick steps, learn kick charleston, work on phrasing.
